Respectful Behavior

  • Always greet with a smile and a “Bula!”

  • Remove your shoes before entering homes

  • Do not wear hats inside villages or homes

  • Always use your right hand when giving or recieving something

Protocol & Ceremonies

  • The sevusevu (gift-giving ceremony)

  • Sit with legs crossed or to the side

Wear modest clothing, especially in villages. Cover shoulders and knees for ceremonies or in churches

Community Life and Values

  • Fijians value collectivism and community

Fiji is a faith-based country — respect for religious practices,

customs, and places of worship is expected and important.

What is normal for Fijians regarding faith should be treated

with understanding and honor.
